PREVENTATIVE DENTISTRY
CHILDREN
Children are especially at risk for cavities, which can lead to infections and pain of the affected teeth. Cavities lead to tooth decay which can lead to tooth loss when left untreated. The good news is cavities can be prevented with routine check-ups and cleanings.
Brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
Drink Water.
Follow-up with regular visits to the dentist.
FOR BABIES
Wipe gums twice a day with a soft, clean cloth in the morning after the first feeding and right before bed to wipe away bacteria and sugars that can cause cavities.
When teeth come in, start brushing twice a day with a soft, small bristled toothbrush and plain water.
Visit the dentist by your baby’s first birthday to spot signs of problems early.
RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY
We offer many types of restorative dental care services that include:
DENTAL FILLINGS
If you have ever had a chipped or decayed tooth, your dentist may have told you that you require a filling. Fillings are dental materials used to fill up any hollow spaces or cavitations in teeth to stop the spread of tooth decay or to repair a tooth’s aesthetics or function. When left untreated, cavities can spread to the healthier parts of the tooth and cause further breakdown. At WGDC, we use materials that match your tooth’s natural enamel to make them less conspicuous, while ensuring optimal strength.
DENTAL CROWNS
When your tooth has become severely damaged, or has undergone Root Canal Therapy (RCT), you may need a dental crown. In this process, a custom artificial hollow tooth is used as a cap and sits over a reshaped tooth to prevent the natural tooth from undergoing further damage and ensures long-term structural health of your tooth. Customized crowns may also be used to correct imperfections and teeth discolorations to restore a beautiful smile.
INLAYS AND ONLAYS
When breakdown of the tooth occurs as the result of either tooth decay or when a fracture is too extensive to fix with a traditional tooth coloured in-office filling, a custom laboratory fabricated porcelain filling can be used to restore function and aesthetics.
ROOT CANAL THERAPY (RCT)
Root canal therapy is used to treat the nerve or dental pulp located inside the tooth if it has been subject to trauma or has decayed due to the progression of tooth decay. Once the pulp has been disinfected, shaped, and sealed, a dental filling or crown is then used to seal the tooth to prevent any further damage or decay. This process can save the affected tooth and result in the restoration of its normal functional and alleviate dental pain.
Root canals have often been synonymous with pain, but with advancements in new technology and techniques, there is nothing to be afraid of!
LASER DENTISTRY
GUM CONTOUR
Do you feel as though your gums rest too high or too low? Then gum contouring may be the right option for you. This cosmetic procedure is done by reshaping the tissue in your gums to make your gumline appear more even by using advanced dental laser technology. With the use of dental lasers, healing is much more rapid and usually pain free versus other means of gum reducing or shaping procedures.
GINGIVECTOMY
This procedure is for individuals whose gums have a severe case of gum disease that cannot be controlled with medications or traditional root planning and scaling. The gum tissue in these individuals undergoes excessive growth or hyperplasia making it more difficult for patients to maintain proper oral hygiene. The use of our dental laser can help to reduce the gums back to their original size, improving both the ability to clean, while also improving aesthetics.
CROWN LENGTHENING
This procedure is designed to increase the overall surface area of your teeth. It involves removing a portion of your gum tissue, bone, or both to make the tooth more accessible for aesthetics or restoration
FRENECTOMY (TONGUE-TIED)
This procedure is designed to release the attachment ligaments of either the upper lip to the gums or the tongue to the floor of the mouth, more commonly known as tongue-tied. The use of the laser makes these procedures quick and painless with an almost immediate recovery.
COSMETIC DENTISTRY
VENEERS
Veneers are used to improve the aesthetics of your smile. For patients unsatisfied with the appearance of their smile, Dr. Eom and his experienced dental lab team can help create your dream smile. Patients are able to see 3D models of what their teeth can look like and along with the guidance of Dr. Eom, can modify or change any aspect of their design before deciding on a final look. The teeth are then gently prepared for thin layers of high quality, highly aesthetic porcelain to be bonded. Composite resin material may also be used. Once the composite is shaped to match the contours of your teeth, it is then hardened to give you the smile you’ve always wanted.
TEETH WHITENING
You may have noticed that your teeth are not the shade of white that they once were or as white as you have always wanted them to be, no matter how much you brush your teeth. At West Georgia Dental Centre, we can help. We provide in-office power whitening that will lighten and whiten your teeth immediately after the first visit so that you can leave with a smile that you can be proud to show off.
DENTAL BONDING
This procedure is used to repair damaged teeth or to change the shape of a tooth. The process works by applying a composite resin material to the affected tooth surface, which is then shaped and hardened with a specialized light. Once the resin sets, you are ready to showcase that beautiful smile with little to no downtime.
TOOTH REPLACEMENTS
DENTAL BRIDGES
Dental bridges are used as a permanent solution to restore the space left behind by one or more missing teeth. The bridge occupies any small or large gaps present in your teeth and uses the teeth adjacent to the gap as support.
DENTURES
When someone has several or large spaces in between their natural teeth or is completely without teeth, a denture may be the solution. In this case, we create a model of your teeth and mouth using dental impressions to create a customized denture that can be easily taken in and out. They are a great option for people who have difficulty eating due to lack of teeth and can even improve your appearance and overall self-esteem leading to a better quality of life.
ORAL SURGERY
EXTRACTIONS
When a tooth becomes badly damaged from injury or decay and can no longer be repaired, the tooth needs to be removed. Teeth that have undergone extensive damage can lead to dental pain and even dental abscesses when left untreated. We use atraumatic teeth removal techniques and always follow-up with our patients as well as give them access to our emergency line for peace mind.
CROWN LENGTHENING
This procedure is designed to increase the overall surface area of your teeth. It involves removing portion of your gum tissue, bone, or both to make the tooth more accessible for aesthetics or restoration. For example, if you need a dental crown and you do not have enough sound tooth structure above the gum line for us to prepare your tooth, we can expose more of your tooth by removing a portion of your gum tissue or bone using our atraumatic laser.
SLEEP APNEA
Regular dental visits can lead to detection and co-diagnosis of undetected and untreated sleep apnea. Depending on the condition of the teeth, gums, and severity of the sleep apnea, a dental appliance can be fabricated to help reposition the jaw during sleep to improve air flow. In other and more severe cases, a referral to a sleep apnea specialist clinic can be written by the dentist.
NIGHT/ SLEEP GUARDS
Increased levels of stress can manifest themselves into physical symptoms including night-time clenching and or grinding of the teeth. In most cases, this problem can go undiagnosed and lead to physical wear of the teeth, jaw and muscle soreness, tension going down the neck, headaches, and ringing in the ears. At West Georgia Dental Centre, we can look for the physical signs and symptoms to diagnose this problem and not only alleviate the pain, but also help gradually break your habit with our custom night guards and information on sleep hygiene.
